Are you thankful?

Hi Everyone,

As I’m writing you, the temperature outside is 53 and the day is shorter now as well. You don’t have to look at a calendar to know the holidays are near. In fact next week is Thanksgiving.

So with that in mind, can I ask you a question? Are you thankful? I don’t mean can you stop and remember things to be thankful for, I mean do you live a life of thankfulness? There’s a big difference.

Living a life of thankfulness is living your life constantly aware of God’s grace and goodness... which means thankfulness becomes the motivation of all that you do.

I personally believe that thankfulness is the key to overcoming sin in our life. Just think about it. If you were truly aware of Gods grace and goodness all the time and you were thankful... how could you sin? For instance, if we were truly thankful for our spouses we wouldn’t treat them poorly. If we were truly thankful for suffering because we know God is developing our maturity and patience, we wouldn’t complain. If we were truly thankful for what God gives us, we wouldn’t covet. If we were truly thankful for Gods sovereignty, we wouldn’t fear.

Do you see it? At the very bottom of why we sin against God and others is because somewhere we aren’t thankful. We want something we don’t have, or think we deserve.

Church, Peter tells us in 1 Pet 1:3 “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life”. And Paul says, in Phil 2:14 “Do everything without complaining” and in 1 Thess 5:18 he says... ”Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

For this Thanksgiving, yes remember all that God has done for you, and enjoy your family... but even better, live a thankful life.

I love you!

Tim
